Request a DNS or domain-routing change
Provide the intended destination and protect existing web and email records.
Describe the outcome
Tell the team which domain or hostname should change and what service it should reach. Include the new provider's documented record requirements when available. A root domain, www hostname, and support hostname can have different destinations.
Include the change details
- The exact record name and type requested by the provider.
- The intended target or value, with any private verification token handled appropriately.
- The business reason and desired maintenance window.
- The person authorized to approve the change.
- Any email, certificate, or application dependencies.
Do not replace an entire DNS zone because one website record needs updating. Existing mail-routing and verification records may be required by other services.
Plan validation
The team should confirm the current configuration, the specific edit, how success will be checked, and a recovery approach when appropriate. DNS caches can retain earlier answers until their applicable lifetime expires; different networks may temporarily observe different results.
Report a routing problem
Provide the intended hostname, final browser address, affected networks, and time of the change. If you can share a DNS result, include which resolver produced it. Do not send registrar passwords or approve an unexpected account-transfer message as part of ordinary troubleshooting.
Include this guide and what you tried in your ticket so we can pick up from there.
